All refrigerators make noises. The normal operation of your refrigerator causes some noises and sounds. These sounds are normal and there is no need to worry unless the sound is constant and unfamiliar.
How to fix humming noises?
If you believe your refrigerator noises are not the normal sounds, determine where the noise is coming from and how often it occurs. Use a timer for this and check how often the noise is heard. If you hear the popping noise 4 times a day equally it’s most likely the turning on and off sound of the defroster. This is normal and there is no need to worry.
What exactly causes popping noises in your refrigerator?
The following are all NORMAL refrigerator operating sounds
There are many different parts and components in your refrigerator. When the temperature changes inside of the refrigerator, these parts and components may expand or shrink. These sounds of expanding and shrinking are normal. |
A hum or click sound can be heard when the icemaker fills with water. |
The water inlet valve can make noises when it allows water to enter the refrigerator for the icemaker or the water dispenser system. When water enters the refrigerator, the water inlet valve can make a “popping” sound. |
When the defrost timer switches on and off a variety of noises can be heard such as clicking, knocking or gurgling. |
If the fan is misaligned, it may make a popping noise. Also, a change in fan speed when the refrigerator responds to changes in temperature may results in a slight popping noise. |
As the damper door in your refrigerator closes or opens, a chirping or barking sound can be heard. |
When the temperature control unit turns the unit on and off, a click may be heard. |
When the unit is running, it may cause noises such as gurgling, knocking or popping. |
A “popping” noise can be heard when the evaporator coils on certain fridge models are cooling after defrost. |
A popping or clicking sound can be heard after a power shortage. This stems from the compressor trying to restart itself. |
A snaping sound can be heard after removing a cup or glass from dispenser. This is the sound of the dispenser closing. |
Do Popping Noises occur most of the refrigerators?
Noises and sounds in refrigerators are normal and can occur all the time. Not every noises in your refrigerator is indicative of a problem. If you have a suspicion about sounds of your refrigerator, before calling a repairman check the normal and abnormal sounds above.
